The modernization of six airfields in Uruguay is progressing rapidly. Within just nine months Aeropuertos Uruguay created a new airport in Carmelo, including a runway, apron and terminal building.
Since the official inauguration on December 19, 2022, we have been able to use the airfield many times. Whether for practice or fueling, lunch at one of the fine restaurants nearby or a visit to a winery, a so-called bodega, including wine tasting, the Carmelo airfield is a great asset for Fly in Uruguay and for general aviation in the region.
As an alternative to our base in Colonia del Sacramento, we can now also use Carmelo Airport to enter or exit the country when flying to Argentina and back. Processing is fast and efficient. The formalities are completed in less than 15 minutes, since immigration and customs are on site and all the installations are brand new. You can also have a cup of coffee or taste and buy products from the nearby Wine Estate Narbona in the café-bar in the terminal building.
Carmelo is the first of six airfields that will be redeveloped in the near future, see also https://aeropuertosuruguay.com.uy/.
